About Us

Get to Know SOLE

SOLE – Survivors of Law Enforcement – was created in xxxxx by a group of women who shared one tragic thing in common: their partners, proud serving police officers in Ontario, were killed in the line of duty. Since then, SOLE has grown to xxx active members, and as a group, they have found strength in helping each other navigate their lives through grief, no matter the stage.

SOLE relies entirely on donations. It receives no formal funding from government and depends on the generosity and goodwill of volunteers and like-minded organizations, such as police associations and other charitable or not-for-profit foundations. Funds raised go towards creating opportunities for SOLE Members to support each other in times of crisis and through ongoing activities, including but not limited to: attending the funeral of a fallen officer, supporting a widow through the court process if their partner’s murderer stands trial, attending the Ontario and National Police Memorials, and the annual survivors’ retreat with guest speakers and therapeutic activities.

Our Fallen Soldiers

On February 27, 1972, Detective Michael Irwin and his partner, Detective Douglas Sinclair, were dispatched to a call where a tenant with a long criminal history was facing eviction that day. As the officers entered the premises, the armed tenant burst through the door and fired several shots, hitting Detective Irwin in the head. Detective Sinclair was shot twice in the chest. Both Detective Irwin and Detective Sinclair died during surgery. SOLE is dedicated to honouring the lives of these fallen soldiers and providing a safe space to their loved ones.
